Common Threads

The mission of Common Threads is to educate children on the importance of nutrition and physical well-being, and to foster an appreciation of cultural diversity through cooking. We provide hands-on after-school cooking classes, a summer day camp, parent outreach sessions, and special events and activities for low-income eight-12 year-olds and their families in urban areas across the country.

At Common Threads, we teach children to cook wholesome and affordable meals because we believe that through our hands-on cooking classes we can help prevent childhood obesity and reverse the trend of generations of non-cookers, while celebrating our cultural differences and the things people all over the world have in common. Common Threads teaches children the knowledge and skills they need to choose and prepare nutritious foods; builds healthier families through parent outreach and nutrition and cooking resources; and empowers children and families to cook together at home and demand better food access.
